Ever since the Taurus took a nose dive a few years ago, Ford has been looking for a suitable replacement to challenge the Accord and Camry in the mid-sized car segment.The Ford Fusion has been around since 2006 but is now modified with the new Hybrid power plant system from Ford.The 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show.In comparison to competitors, the Ford Fusion Hybrid gets some of the best in-town gas mileage.  The EPA rates the Hybrid at 41 MPG which bests the Camry by 8 MPG and even outshines the Civic Hybrid by 1 MPG in the city;  a great feat for a mid-sized sedan.  The Fusion’s electric engine can power the car up to 47 MPH without any help from the gas engine.A bunch of Car Prublications have used this method to get greater fuel economy than the EPA estimates.

Using new technology, the Fusion can inform drivers which driving style is best for fuel economy.The Engineers have a great feature of gauges built into the dash called the Smart Gauge.A couple of different info categories are displayed on two screens next to the gauge cluster.The driver can see the amount of gasoline and the amount of electric charge left in the batteris through the 1st info screen.The 2nd display shows the vehicle tachometer and also tells which mode the Fusion is running in; full electric or hybrid.The third monitor will tell how the battery power is and what the engine output is.The fourth screen displays data including power to the wheels and accessory power consumption.Information Displays reveal fuel consumption, Miles Per Gallon account, journey record, and antifreeze levels.Real time Mile Per Gallon information lets the driver know which driving style gains best fuel economy.

Check the nav display to see the cool hybrid Energy Flow stuff.A couple of different things will be displayed like the charge of the car, the various hybrid power systems, the regenerative braking, and the boost.

Ford not only equipped the Fusion with an environmentally friendly drivetrain; they also used post-industrial yarns which are recycled into the seats of the Fusion Hybrid.Ford has finally come out with a fuel efficient car that will appeal to the masses and be a leading competitor to Toyota and Honda's hybrids.
