It's easy to find discounted car bargains at a public auto auction. Not only can great deals on used cars be found there, but also some incredible higher end cars too.. Many people purchase vehicles this way either for themselves or to sell at a profit. This pleasant experience, however, can quickly turn sour if you don't know a few things.
One possible problem is that the purchase might not be a good one. Every car at an auction isn't a hidden gem. Keep in mind that what you see at an auction is what you get. Even children have been taught about “as is” through a television cartoon showing a guy buying a used car. The salesman responds “as is” to every question. After the sale is final the buyer tries to drive the car, but the doors fall off and the engine explodes. The unfortunate buyer shouts “I want the car as was!” Don't be like that man.
Reputable auto auctions give buyers ample opportunities to check out the cars before bidding or purchase. Don't make a purchase or even a bid at any auction that won't accommodate that practice. Arrive early. Inspect and take a spin in the interesting autos. If you don't know anything about cars, bring someone who does. If that isn't possible, at least drive the car for an inspection during the test drive. It doesn't take long to check key components like the engine and breaks. Check other elements for damage. This includes the body, upholstery, and bumpers .
Another problem is inherent in auctions. Auction prices can be terrific, but sometimes people assume a bargain where there is none. That holds true for auto auctions too. The bidding can easily escalate to well over the car's value. Add the fees often associated with the auction and it means great care must be taken to know the real value of a car. Easily accessible date on car values is standard issue for auction buyers. No need to even look it up in advance since the information is online and phones can access it. Even for the car of your dreams, don't bid more than its value.
Keep in mind there are deals to be found. Don't go in blind, however. There's a sucker born every minute. Don't be the minute man at an auto auction.
