External hard disk question!?

I bought an external hardisk, and when i plugged in my USB slot , the Hardisk Icon didn't appear on " My computer "
I tried to check in my " System manager ", and i couldn't find any clues.
Normally every plugin i insert in my USB slot, it will show an icon from the plugin in " my computer ", but this time, i'm lost, i dunno what to do anymore!
PLS HELP ME!!

My External Hardisk is an " LA CIE design by F-A PORSCHE " with 120gz

It came with 2 cables, 1 is for the file transfer and 1 is for the energy. ( The energy comes from the usb , not from the transformador )
When i plug my external hardisk, it makes that sound telling me there's a plugin, but it just don't appear on the screen.

OK did the drive have power? Did you try a different cable?

Did you try the drive in a different computer. Did you try a different USB port front vs back?

Now right click the my computer icon on your desktop then go to manage. The go to Device manager do you have any yellow exclamation points?

Go under disk management does it show a drive that is not formatted or partitioned?

It is also possible you have a bad drive, does it light up at all when you power it up? Is there an on off switch on the drive indicator lights?
